For Developers
If you are interested in contributing to the LeafLabs project, there are a variety of ways you can get involved. Currently our team is small, and we're always interested in getting new people involved. An excellent way to get started is to hang out in our IRC channel, #leafblowers at irc.freenode.net. If you are interested in a specific avenue of development, you can email , and we will put you in touch with the relevant responsible engineer. We're currently focusing our development on three fronts: Hardware, Software, and Web Presence. If you're interested in helping test finished leaf boards, you may sign up to be a beta tester. Beta testing is a sweet gig-- you get a board months in advance and at a discount in return for your feedback regarding bugs, usability, design etc.
The greatest contribution any developer can make, especially in these early stages, is feedback. What's most important to us is to hear about your experiences, good and bad, with Leaf products in order to prioritize feature development/deployment on a schedule better suited to our user community.
Becoming a Beta Tester
We expect beta-testing to essentially be an opportunity for community members to participate in the design process through their feedback, while getting a LeafBoard earlier and at a lower cost. We expect these boards to be nearly perfect, and are looking for the subtle bugs that slipped by us; we do not plan on shipping boards with any substantial gaps in functionality.
- A few weeks to a month before its release date, we will update the relevant product page with a form for you to sign up to beta test the new board.
- A limited amount of boards will be available, varying by particular release; they will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.
- When all of the boards have been assigned testers, we will remove the form from the web page.
- Local testers may "borrow" a board, and then choose later to buy it at a discount; nonlocal testers may purchase a board at the same discount.
- At the end of the beta testing period, you will be solicited for feedback regarding the functionality of the boards.
Currently beta testing is in progress for Maple. As we approach the release of our next boards, we will update our beta tester mailing list. Sign up to be on our mailing list here (you must be a registered user to sign up for mailing lists).
